Our team designed and installed a commercial solar installation for Parrotdog Brewery, one of Wellington’s leading independent craft brewers, based in their modern facility in Lyall Bay. Parrotdog is celebrated for its innovative beers, from core ranges like Birdseye Hazy IPA to seasonal limited releases, with production involving energy-hungry processes like brewing, fermentation cooling, and packaging to supply bars and stores nationwide.
Breweries like Parrotdog typically face high electricity demands from refrigeration, pumps, and heating, contributing to substantial monthly power bills that can strain operational costs in a growing craft beer market.
Being Auckland-based, this project meant a significant drive south for our crew—a couple of trips down State Highway 1 to coordinate site surveys, deliveries, and the install itself. Challenges included navigating Wellington’s famously windy conditions during rooftop work, ensuring safe mounting on the large industrial roof, and timing stages around the brewery’s ongoing operations to avoid any downtime in their busy brewing schedule. We opted for robust, high-efficiency panels suited to the capital’s climate for reliable year-round output.
The system now generates renewable energy on-site, directly offsetting a major share of their grid usage and delivering meaningful reductions in electricity expenses while supporting Parrotdog’s commitment to sustainability. This installation highlights the strong payback potential of solar for energy-intensive industries, even when the job takes us across the island.
