Our team completed a 100kW commercial solar installation for Wild Wheat Specialty Breads, a renowned artisan bakery with its production facility in South Auckland (Mangere area). Known for crafting high-quality sourdoughs and specialty breads using traditional methods, Wild Wheat operates energy-intensive ovens and equipment around the clock to meet demand across their retail outlets and wholesale partners.
Prior to the solar upgrade, the bakery faced substantial electricity costs, with monthly bills reaching in the thousands due to consistent high power draw from baking processes. This significant expense impacted their operating margins in a competitive industry.
Our experienced team tackled several challenges to deliver a seamless rooftop system. The large, well positioned commercial roof required careful structural assessment to ensure it could support the array without modifications. We also coordinated scheduling around the bakery’s non-stop production to minimize disruptions, working efficiently during off-peak hours. High-quality panels and inverters were selected for optimal performance in Auckland’s variable weather, maximizing daytime energy capture when the ovens are running at peak.
The results have been transformative: the 100kW system generates clean, on-site power that directly offsets a large portion of their grid consumption, significantly reducing monthly electricity costs and enhancing sustainability. Wild Wheat is now projected to save substantially over the system’s lifetime, while lowering their carbon footprint. This project exemplifies how solar can deliver real financial and environmental benefits for energy-intensive businesses like bakeries.
